Welcome to my website!

Over the next 12 months I’ll be posting regular updates on my travels (internet connections allowing).

It was August 2006 when I first decided to travel through Africa to Cape Town.
There are many modes of transport suitable for African travel, from hitchhiking, bicycle, overland truck or even on foot. It only took a few days of research to establish the means of transport suited to me, one which affords comfort, freedom, a certain degree of safety and one which is enormous fun – the trusty Land Rover… See the Vehicle page for more information about my 1995 Land Rover Defender called ‘M’

As the decision to travel has only been taken relatively recently, I’ve only had time to plan logistics, equipment and to learn the basics of how to support myself and the vehicle. To date, I’ve not spent a great deal of time researching the sights along the way, only the route. For me this is really about the journey. That’s not to say I’m not interested in seeing some of the most incredible sights on the planet – it’s just they’re not the main reason for the trip.

One major uncontrollable factor affecting my departure is the weather, before starting my research, I must say I was rather naive about the nuances of African weather, it didn’t help that half way thorough my planning I decided to travel to Cape Town through the Eastern route rather than the West…

My journey started on the 31st January 2007.
